Our Mission

Save Lake Roland (SLR) is an organization dedicated to preventing irresponsible development and the loss of open space in the neighborhoods surrounding Lake Roland Park. Currently, our most pressing initiative is opposing a high-density development project - 55,000+ sf of commercial space, 155 rental apartments, 7 buildings total, several of which will be 6 stories, on 6 acres abutting Lake Roland. Bluestem, previously known as The Village of Lake Roland, is planned for the intersection of Falls and Clarkview Roads, 6241 through 6247 Falls Road. Despite some superficial modifications in the design by the developer, we remain opposed to this project because the density and height of buildings remains far too high; the impact on the traffic, the inadequate sewer system and the Park and Lake will be significant. Breaking news: The Administrative Judge has reached a decision and has denied the Bluestem Development’s application based primarily on “inadequate services” i.e., failing and overwhelmed sewer capacity in the area. It is likely the case will go to the Board of Appeals.

This is what we are working to protect:
